Designed by: Willie Landels
Manufactured by: Zanotta
Throw-Away is a revolutionary seating design that was discovered by Zanotta founder, Aurelio Zanotta, when he saw it in the London house of the artist and magazine editor, Willie Landels. Throw-Away is the first padded item in which foam polyurethane had a structural function. It has neither wooden nor metal bearing frames, nor elastic belts, nor hardware - all of these internal materials and devices commonly associated with upholstered furniture were replaced by four blocks that are glued together and then upholstered. New technologies, avant-garde materials, and function merge for a conceptual evolution of the furnishing product. Throw-Away is also the first informal furnishing item that paves the way for other well-known Zanotta icons from the mid to late 1960s (Sacco, Blow, Karelia). Throw-Away is included in the permanent collections of several museums including the Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Cologne, and Die Neue Sammlung, Munich. Noted here is the Throw-Away sofa that is available in a wide-range of upholstery options. Manufactured by Zanotta.
