Karelia, the non-conformist pop icon seating element of the mid 1960s, is back in production for the 2020s! Along with Zanotta's Thow-Away design, Karelia is one of the first frameless lounge chairs. Made entirely of polyurethane foam, Karelia features a soft, wave-like surface that draws inspiration from the designer's homeland, the Republic of Karelia in Finland. In 2024, new fabric upholstery options in a wide array of colors replace the vinyl of the originals from the 1960s and 1970s. The individual elements can be used as lounge chairs or combined to create sectional sofas of varying widths. Karelia is included in the permanent collection of the Vitra Design Museum, Germany.
