Designed by: Carlo Mollino
Manufactured by: Zanotta
The Fenis CM dining chair is a sculpture: entirely carved out of solid maple, its back rests on the legs creating a game of elegant joints, in the continuity of the shapes. Designed in 1959 by Mollino for his office at the Castello del Valentino in Turin, home of the Faculty of Architecture, Fenis is the first project by the master of design that Zanotta decided to produce in 1981. It was a bold, avant-garde choice that went beyond the frontiers of furniture to arrive at those of art. Manufactured by Zanotta.

“Many people might deem it an exaggeration to present the products of just one manufacturer as a ‘micromodel’ of Italian furniture design in its entirety. However, if it makes no sense to claim that Zanotta’s production alone represents all the key moments of the Italian design history of the last sixty years, we must admit that this history could not be written without referring to its contribution.” - Emilio Ambasz, 1988. From its inception in 1954, Zanotta has been known for the quality, function, and comfort of its furniture designs – all underscored with a remarkable commitment to research and experimentation with materials and technology to enable new aesthetics. Zanotta’s catalogue of iconic modern and contemporary designs chronicles the evolution of Italian furniture design within the 20th and 21st centuries.
