Contessa is a midcentury Wittmann design that the manufacturer has recently placed back into production. In fact, its the first piece of modern furniture that this Austrian manufacturer created after World War II. Its sensuous form with canted legs is typical of European midcentury design; its curves are only accentuated by the piping that delineates its organic form. Yet, unlike the original, Wittmann has used the past six decades of technological advances in production and materials to create this re-edition. Contessa 1956 is now extraordinarily comfortable featuring ultra-flat pocket spring matting that sits atop a criss-crossed elastic webbing and an ergonomically spring tubular steel frame - all light years ahead of the materials and techology from the 1950s. Yet, for all the advances of its internal composition, Contessa is upholstered using Wittmann's time-honored tradition of workmanship. Available in numerous textile and leather upholstery options.
