Manufactured by: Tacchini
Africa is a chair that encapsulates a perfect synthesis of structure, form, and functionality in a sculpture that highlights the constructive and communicative power of the material. A re-edition of the chair designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in 1975, Africa is a timeless project that celebrates the ancient craftsmanship of the cabinetmaker and the revival of wood in design. The solid canaletto walnut frame, with a thin rectangular section, reveals the full expressiveness of the veneer through the variation in its thicknesses, while the seat is masterfully curved and upholstered in leather or fabric. The backrest that is the true protagonist of the chair: crafted as a single piece and later divided and finished into two mirrored parts, it features delicate manual processes of roughing and smoothing, from which layers of different woods emerge, creating stunning chromatic effects thanks to the subtle black inlay. The backrest and the rear legs are only joined at the base, forming a wide gap that provides flexibility to the structure while evoking a totemic image. Manufactured by Tacchini.
