Designed by: Ettore Sottsass
Manufactured by: Stilnovo
Valigia is both ironic and informal: the small handle and the two bearing arches in red piping are connected to a metal "vault-like" form which contains the light source. Valigia (quite literally meaning "suitcase" in Italian) is a like a small piece of architecture without precise confines, yet clearly conceived to be taken anywhere The "handle" form as an element would continue to figure prominently in many of Ettore Sottsass' designs for Memphis Milano and Artemide. Valigia is included in the permanent collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Lamp body, joints, and bulb holder in black painted metal. Rod in chromed metal, base in iron with external finishing in polyethylene. Manufactured by Stilnovo.
