Overview

The Curve Bench is as much sculpture as it is seating. Constructed from a single block of aromatic cedar, Curve is distinguished by its enigmatic form that features an asymmetrical arch shape below a flat seating expanse. The manipulation of the inherent striations, rings, and knots of the cedar wood is extraordinary. Lengthwise, these striations evoke movement as they traverse the sculptural form; the knots function as punctuation. The ends of the bench exalt the concentric pattern of the cedar wood’s natural tree rings. Movement, cracks, and changes to the form’s surface are to be expected and embraced – these are all simply characteristic of the cedar wood from which they are made and only add to the overall aesthetics of the piece. The Curve bench is available in several lengths along with several cedar wood finishes. An optional seat cushion upholstered in either leather or textile is also available separately. Brodie Neill

Brodie Neill (born 1972 in Tasmania, Australia) graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2001 receiving a degree in furniture design. In 2004, Neill completed his masters degree in furniture design at the Rhode Island School of Design. After opening a studio in New York City, Neill is now based in London where he works closely with several manufacturers including Kundalini, Made in Ratio, and Riva1920. Made in Ratio is the designer's eponymous furniture brand that was established in 2013.
