Designed by Gandia Blasco and developed jointly with the Belgian company, Umbrosa, that specializes in umbrellas and parasols, the Umbra folding umbrella offers a novel form and function. Made with 100% acrylic canvas that is highly UV resistant and water repellent, it is supported by a robust pole made of powder-coated aluminum with super-durable powdered paint. Its base is composed of a set of concrete tiles hidden by a galvanized steel cover that provides great stability as well as mobility in great measure to its four wheels with brakes. Its square shape allows the axis to be moved from its base to one side, enabling it to be positioned at different angles with a rotation of up to 360º. It can also be adjusted in height, which facilitates its versatility and adaptation to any outdoor environment. The Umbra folding umbrella can be folded into a fan shape for storage and includes a protective cover. Jose Antonio Gandia-Blasco Canales was born in Ontinyent, Valencia. After studying law at the Valencia University, he joined the family business Gandio Blasco which was a manufacturer of blankets at the time. After travelling throughout Spain as a business agent, he began to work on responsibilities in the company. With the help of designers, Marisa Gallén and Sandra Figuerola, he began to reshape the company’s image. During the building of his summer residence in Ibiza in 1996, he needed to furnish the house with outdoor furniture that would match the character of the architecture. In close collaboration with his architect, they developed the Na Xemena collection which quickly became an iconic design collection. Besides being the company president, he is also its artistic director having designed a great majority of the furniture and textile collections that Gandia Blasco now sells around the world.
