The Hinaki suspension light could be classed as David Trubridge’s first exploration into lighting. In 1995 he made a prototype of this form based on fish traps which are called "hinaki" by Maori, though often the name is used specifically for an eel trap. They were made from woven vines, some in amazingly beautiful forms. He set it aside for many years, only to develop it later after his Coral design had gained international attention. The Hinaki 900 suspension light ships as a flatpack with assembly required. For an upcharge, the light can be shipped fully assembled or in custom colors.
