Overview

The Pallas dining table has an overwhelming optical presence. It commands any room at the first glance. And at the second glance it reveals an abundance of exciting design details; kinks and notches which break up and give life to the smooth lines, the screwed joints on the underside, the tactile appeal of the slightly coarsened, powder coated metal surface. The proportions are selected in such a way that, in contrast to many fashionably wide tables, people sit closer to each other. This stimulates table conversation and makes Pallas a natural communications center. Table in sheet steel with a fine-texture powder coating while the outdoor version is in galvanized weatherproof steel. Available colors are jet black, basalt gray, cream, signal white, honey yellow, British racing green, ocean blue, gray blue, coral red, or bronze brown. Manufactured by ClassiCon.

ClassiCon, a clever portmanteau deriving from the words “classic” and “contemporary,” perfectly fuses the range of designs produced by this German manufacturer. Founded in 1990, ClassiCon holds the worldwide license to produce Eileen Gray’s iconic range of designs from the 20th century. Before her death in 1973, Gray collaborated with London’s Aram Designs to issue many of her furnishings as production pieces – lounge chairs, sofas, side tables, dining tables, screens, and rugs. ClassiCon is the only licensed manufacturer of Eileen Gray’s designs. In addition to its meticulous production of her furnishings from the 1920s and 1930s, ClassiCon collaborates with a number of contemporary designers like Konstantin Grcic, Jader Alme ida, Nina Mair, Sauerbruch Hutton, Edward Barber + Jay Osgerby, Neri & Hu, Sebastian Herkner, to create new pieces. All ClassicCon pieces are presented as part of an edition where each example is both stamped and numbered. Konstantin Grcic

Konstantin Grcic (born 1965 in Munich, Germany) trained as a cabinetmaker at Parnham College in the UK and later received a master's degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London. He set up his own office in Munich in 1991; today, Konstantin Grcic Design is based in Berlin. The office is active in several fields ranging from industrial design projects, exhibition design, and architectural collaborations. His work is characterized by a careful research into the history of art, design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Grcic has collaborated with several clients including Aeance, Authentics, Cassina, ClassiCon, Flötotto, Flos, Galerie Kreo, Kettal, Laufen, Magis, Muji, Nespresso, Plank, Smart, and Vitra. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for his MayDay lamp (Flos, 2001), the MYTO chair (Plank, 2011) and the OK lamp (Flos, 2016). Grcic's designs are included in the permanent collections of several museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.
