Designed by: Afra & Tobia Scarpa
Manufactured by: Cassina
In collaboration with Tobia Scarpa, Cassina has reissued its iconic Soriana Collection of seating - a design that has for decades been sought after by collectors of modern design. Working with the designer and Cassina's archives, Soriana was reissued with the utmost respect for authenticity along with a sensitivity to environmentally friendly materials. Soriana was originally designed in 1969 as part of an intuitive vision by its designers, Afra and Tobia Scarpa, that would be destined to re-write the history of upholstered furniture. By taking advantage of new polyurethane foam forming techniques at the time, they crafted seating that had no need for traditional internal support - the forms taking their shapes from the "grip" of the metal structure that embraces it. Falling somewhere between formal and informal, its inviting and open shape embraced a range of possible lifestyles; In 1970, Soriana was awarded the prestigious Compasso d'Oro as a masterpiece of complexity having been achieved through simple tools. Noted here is the Soriana chaise longue available in different sizes. Manufactured by Cassina.
