White glass is captured inside a fine copper mesh basket and then plunged into hot clear glass. Air is blown into the matrix to gently push the white glass through the mesh, creating a delicate pillowed form that is suspended inside the thick outer layer of clear glass. Sometimes the copper mesh basket folds and crinkles, adding specificity to each piece. Undulations in the exterior shape are a natural consequence of the fabrication process and accentuate the gentle white pillowing below. A low-voltage xenon or LED light source is introduced into the piece, casting a warm coppery hue. The 84.1m suspension light has a choice of three mini canopies which can be used to minimize the visual impact on the ceiling. Each of these canopies require the power supply to be remotely mounted. The 84.1m light requires one 10W (dimmable) Xenon or 1.5W LED bulb, which is included. The LED version is dimmable when using a compatible dimmer supplied by others. UL Listed. CSA. Bocci was founded after a chance meeting in 2005 of its principals, Omer Arbel and Randy Bishop, during New York Design Week where Arbel was presenting a prototype of a cast glass pendant lamp and Bishop was attending a convention. The pair returned to Vancouver and launched Bocci with Arbel's single, now iconic and award-winning '14' pendant. Over the ensuing decade, Bocci has grown into an expansive range of lighting designs organized into families that are characterized by overarching aesthetics achieved through Arbel's masterful experimentation and manipulation of materials - molten metals, blown glass, porcelain, ceramic - all infused with cutting edge illumination technologies. Arbel's designs instantly become the focal point of any interior, creating an ethereal nexus of the universes of illumination, sculpture, and installation. Omer Arbel (born 1976 in Jerusalem, Israel) graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1997 after earning a bachelor's degree in environmental science. He completed an apprenticeship under Catalan architect, Enric Miralles, and launched OAO, his own building design practice in 2005. His work includes lamps, sculptures, and even power outlets for Bocci; his designs focus on the exploration of the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of materials and their interaction with light. Discussing the design process, Arbel notes that “failure is a constant companion. Nine out of 10 projects end in failure – we don't reach our destination, the client's patience runs out… there's great disappointment, there's mourning, and then there's the paradigm shift.”
