Designed by: Mario Bellini
Manufactured by: B&B Italia
Camaleonda, designed in 1970 by Mario Bellini, features a modular sofa design that has defined the aesthetics of an entire era of interior design in great measure to its commercial and critical successes. Bellini named the design as a clever portmanteau of the Italian words for "camaleonte" (chameleon) and "onda" (wave) - like a chameleon, Camaleonda is a mutable design; its innovatively tufted seating expanse akin to a wave. A seating system of flexible elements that is finally back in production after a careful design process that involved the close collaboration between the B&B Italia's Research & Development Centre and Mario Bellini. Camaleonda was only in original production through 1979. By mutual agreement, Mario Bellini and B&B Italia decided to keep the original dimensions of the seat module, together with the original associated backrest and armrest - in fact, the original cutting pattern was actually used for the new edition introduced in 2020. Thanks to the tie-rods and the rings, the modules can be unhooked and recombined at will, allowing the sofa to adapt to an evolving taste and the dynamic needs of those using it. The fundamental characteristic of the Camaleonda seating system is its unlimited modularity, a geometric pattern that allows each element to become a sort of enormous "pixel" through which to define your home environment. By hooking and unhooking seats, backrests, and armrests, you can enjoy the luxury of changing your mind as many times as you desire, moving and redesigning Camaleonda within your space. Camaleonda has been widely exhibited in a plethora of museum exhibitions over many decades. Manufactured by B&B Italia.
