Designed by: Ettore Sottsass
Manufactured by: Artemide
An iconic design from the early 1980s that features an assemblage of truncated cones in two sizes joined by a cylindrical stem. Each of these three shapes has been objectified with a distinct color that masterfully defines its volume - the lamp's stem sports Sottsass' signature handle that is oft-seen on several of his lighting and furniture designs from the late 1970s and early 1980s (Valigia table lamp, Stilnovo, 1977; Seggiolina di Pranza dining chair, Studio Alchimia, 1980). Callimaco was originally created for Artemide in 1982, the year following the debut of the inaugural collection of Memphis Design.
Callimaco has been technologically refreshed by the inclusion of LED illumination and a retrofit touch dimmer. Its cylindrical body is composed of aluminum painted yellow with a polished chrome handle; conical base and diffuser are composed of steel and finished in gray and red respectively. Manufactured by Artemide.
