Omer Arbel

Omer Arbel (born 1976 in Jerusalem, Israel) graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1997 after earning a bachelor's degree in environmental science. He completed an apprenticeship under Catalan architect, Enric Miralles, and launched OAO, his own building design practice in 2005. His work includes lamps, sculptures, and even power outlets for Bocci; his designs focus on the exploration of the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of materials and their interaction with light. Discussing the design process, Arbel notes that “failure is a constant companion. Nine out of 10 projects end in failure – we don't reach our destination, the client's patience runs out… there's great disappointment, there's mourning, and then there's the paradigm shift.”
