Verner Panton designed the Fun Series of lamps in 1964 using thin, translucent mother of pearl discs made from Capiz shells. These discs are connected into "shell chains" of different length; suspended from metal rings, these chains form a cluster to become the diffuser. These chains are so lightweight that both air current as well as the heat generated from the bulb creates subtle movement akin to a kinetic sculpture.
Noted here is the Fun 11DM suspension light that features a metal rod that supports five rings of varying height to which the "shell chains" are attached; a black fabric cord allows the user to adjust the overall height of the diffuser. Available in chrome or brass finish. UL approved. Manufactured by Verpan.
