Gebruder T 1819
Gebruder T 1819 (also known as Gebruder Thonet and Thonet GmbH) and began with the work of master carpenter Michael Thonet (1796 – 1871), who provided the transition from manual furniture production to industrial production. Thonet’s No. 14 chair from 1859 composed through an innovative technique of bending solid beech wood has long been a design icon and ushered in the era of the modern chair. Having mastered the manipulation of bending wood, the manufacturer’s next product line was the construction of tubular steel furniture – designs by Mart Stam, Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer – that characterized the Bauhaus movement of the 1920s and early 1930s. In addition to manufacturing its bentwood and tubular steel classics, Gebruder T 1819 collaborates with a number of contemporary designers.
