Philippe Starck
Philippe Starck (born 1949 in Paris) graduated from the École Missim de Camondo in 1967. Starck founded his design firm in 1968 and began his career as an interior designer in the 1970s. He quickly garnered international attention in the early 1980s when French president Francois Mitterrand commissioned him to design the interior space for the private apartments in the Elysée Palace. Several consecutive successes have continued to follow in the fields of industrial design, interiors, and architecture. Starck has created a staggering array of objects from furniture to mail-order homes, lighting to luggage, motorbikes to mega-yachts, even designing the habitation modules for Axiom's commercial space station scheduled to open in 2020. Switch Modern shows a number of designs by Philippe Starck including his work for Driade, Flos, and Kartell.
