CH23 Dining Chair

Designed by:  Hans J. Wegner
Manufactured by:  Carl Hansen & Son

Out of production for the past five decades, Carl Hansen & Son is reintroducing the CH23 dining chair. The chair offered an early example of Wegner's unique flair for design and craftmanship: the shape of the elegant cover caps in the backrest, the special double-woven seat, and the arched shape of the rear legs to ensure optimal stability. Straightforward, functional, and beautifully crafted, it was one of the first pieces Wegner designed exlusively for Carl Hansen.

The CH23 is available in oak and walnut as well as in a combination of these wood types, all in a variety of finishes. The elegant cover caps on the backrest are available in either oak or walnut. The seat is available in natural or black paper cord.

Designed in 1950.

Danish designer Hans Wegner (1914-2007) was apprenticed to a cabinet maker before studying in Copenhagen at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts and the Architectural Academy. A renowned furniture designer, Wegner is considered one of the significant forces behind the “Danish Modern” movement and helped develop organic functionalism. His work has won many awards over the years – the Lunning Prize (1951) and The 8th International Design Award (1997). Hans Wegner's designs have been manufactured by a number of prominent brands including AP Stolen, Andreas Tuck, Getama, Fredericia Stolefabrik, Carl Hansen & Son, Johannes Hansen, Fritz Hansen, and Erik Jorgensen.
