Brix is a modular stacking drawer system that can be arranged in almost endless configurations. Its versatility comes from its simplicity, resulting in a system that can be adapted, reconfigured, and expanded over time. The pre-assembled modules are combined easily using simple locking mechanisms to create rigid units that can be stacked to any height and attached horizontally into a seamless unit. Brix durable high-glosspolyurethane lacquer is available in multiple colors. Tops are reinforced with steel to support heavy loads, while drawers are equipped with push-latch slides for easy opening. Steel fin legs or low platform base options increase the configuration possibilities. Brix is made from high-density wood composite panels painted with a premium high gloss lacquer. The pieces are easily combined through a series of pins and cams to create a rigid drawer unit that can be stacked to any height. The intentional spacing and reveals between parts ensure consistent alignment. Drawers are opened using sophisticated push-latch drawer slides that are concealed and move silently. The drawer boxes themselves are made with Bensen’s standard European Birch plywood, but with taped top edges for a more finished look. The two base options provide different advantages. The steel fin legs provide a way to lock ganged units together, and create the appearance of a single continuous unit. Panel bases allow units to sit low on the ground and are equipped with hidden levellers for adjustment on uneven floors. Both options ensure a tight fit when units are placed side by side. Bensen
Bensen is a design and manufacturing group that was founded in 1981 by Niels Bendtsen and is based in Vancouver, Canada. Along with his staff, Danish-born Bendtsen not only designs the pieces for Bensen, but also oversees production of its extensive line of home furnishings – sofas, sectionals, tables, chairs, stools, credenzas, cabinets, and beds. According to Bendsten, “Quality is a funny concept. We tend to think of it as being associated with handcraft. But quality is also about your attitude to design. Craftsmanship is just as much about how you run the machines that are necessary for economic viability.” Bensen’s philosophy of balancing simplicity and honesty in design is a sentiment that Switch Modern shares. While we have just started adding Bensen designs to our website, we expect to shortly be showing a greater range of pieces and typologies… in the meantime, please contact us for specific information regarding pieces not currently highlighted.
