Gaulino Chair

Designed by:  Oscar Tusquets Blanca
Manufactured by:  BD Barcelona

BD Barcelona has launch an improved re-edition of the historic Gaulino chair which, designed in 1987, was selected for the Industrial Design Prize and Adi-Fad in1989 and in Iberdiseño in 1990. Since then it has always been included in the retrospective shows of Spanish Design, in both exhibitions and publications, and has become a point of reference in twentieth century design in our country. In this work, Oscar Tusauets Blanca's clearest influences came from Antoni Gaudí and Carlo Mollino: this is why the chair was called Gaulino. Although its appearance is totally handmade, the Gaulino was Blanca's first really industrial project in wood; with it he discovered just what machines could do and make. Manufactured by BD Barcelona.

BD Barcelona

Since 1972, BD Barcelona’s focus has been on the intersection of art and design. Choosing artisan methods over mass production that often results in limited or short-lived production runs, each of BD Barcelona’s designs marks a close collaboration with an artist or designer to produce pieces that function on such a highly aesthetic level that each design truly blurs the lines between sculpture and industrial design. Throughout its history, BD Barcelona has not only expertly curated its now iconic archival collections by Antoni Gaudi , Salvador Dali, and Josep Jujol, but collaboratively developed extraordinarily engaging contemporary designs by Ettore Sottsass, Javier Mariscal, Jaime Hayon, Antoine + Manuel, Christian Zuzunaga, Doshi Levien, Pepe Cortes , and the Campana Brothers. Switch Modern delights in presenting the entire BD Barcelona collection on its website as well as highlighting several seminal furniture and accessory designs in our Atlanta showroom.
