The annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) kicks off today at the Javit Center in New York City. There have been events all week. We were particularly impressed by an exhibition at the DuPont™ Corian® showroom. Corian and Intramuros Magazine have mounted "Carte Blanche"—an exhibition of 25 imaginative works by international designers to celebrate the magazine's 25th anniversary. We thought the work was so interesting and innovative that we made a little video showing all the entries. There seems to be nothing you can't do with Corian.

SWITCH's "Spotlight on
Design" in our Atlanta showroom on Wednesday, April 28, enjoyed the
largest attendance to date. Yong Pak of Pak Heydt & Associates was the guest designer, and
he did not disappoint. Pak and partner Charles Heydt
are highly regarded for their talent applying a modern sensibility to
classical design. Pak showed beautiful slides of Italian Renaissance
architect Andrea Palladio's villas in
Vicenza, Italy, where Pak studied architecture as a young designer. The
firm's reputation for meticulous, traditional detailing can be traced to
these early Palladian influences.
Speaking of Palladio, there's a fascinating exhibition, Palladio
and His Legacy: A Transatlantic Journey, at the Morgan Library
in New York through August 1. The show features 31 original Palladio
drawings from the Royal Institute of British Architects. These exquisite
drawings, which were exhibited only once before in America and never in
New York, will be on view to the public for the first time in over 30
years.
Guests were greeted with a redesigned showroom, now featuring the
latest
addition to our stable of quality designers and manufacturers, Poltrona Frau, the Italian
purveyor of high-end, classical, and contemporary furniture and
accessories.

SWITCH was the site of an
informal cocktail party and Q&A with William B. Peace,
ASID, on March 31. This was our second "Spotlight on Design" at our
Atlanta showroom, and 60 guests showed up to talk with the award-winning
interior designer who specializes in high-end residential design from
offices in Atlanta and Bozeman, Montana.
Bill explained to the audience how he addresses the different
sensibilities of a diverse base of clients from urbanites who live in
chic urban areas like Atlanta to those who prefer the rustic aesthetics
Big Sky country and many others in between. Whatever the context, all of
his clients are drawn to the simplicity and elegance for which he's
renowned.
